Carol Schram: Oliver Ekman-Larsson to Vancouver? Maybe it does make some sense? It was a surprise to hear Vancouver linked to a potential Oliver Ekman-Larsson trade out of Arizona, but perhaps there's a fit, depending on what new Coyotes GM Bill Armstrong is asking in return.

When I hear Van fans say we are set on the Left side I disagree. We might be set in four years but next year Hughes still hasn't played 82 games , OJ has played one and Edler is on his downslope.

Our year after we are not handcuffed to offer Edler an unreasonable contract. I think it would be great for Hughes and OEL for the next 5 years.

Edler is better playing fewer minutes. He's also an upgrade over Benn and Fantenberg.

Is Rafferty a more viable option if he's paired with an experienced and higher-caliber partner like OEL?

I think Rafferty would benefit

For giggles, nothing too serious....

New Jersey has 18 and 20 overall picks that came from Ari and Van respectively, what if Van could get those picks?

Boeser, Virtanen and Sutter to NJ for 18 and 20
18, 20, Erikson and Joulevi to Ari for OEL

Why Boeser? He has to be qualified at 7.5 million, and him being moved out ensures Toffoli can be resigned.

Why Virtanen? He will become a better player but his cost to continue developing is too high for Vancouver. He won't have a stable top 6 spot and he will cost too much for the role he provides.

Why Joulevi? He will be a good 2nd pairing defensive player in the future, but, OEL is already better than he will be in the long run.

That would essentially move out 16 million for this coming season from Van (and another 12 next year) to be replaced by the 8.25 of OEL. That extra 8 ensures Toffoli, Markstrom and Tanev can be resigned, and provide some room for depth players or promotions from the farm.

Like I said, just for giggles!

Thanks Carol, I think you're right, Petey and Hughes are beginning to have an effect on high caliber players who maybe want to come play in Van.

I know people get really stuck on wanting to have Dmen play to their handedness, but I'd be fairly confident saying one of Hughes or OEL would be fully capable of playing the right side.

The salary is a tough thing to look past, but purely on the basis of the player, I'd love to see OEL play in Van.

For the most part no to OEL, unless the Canucks can get Arizona to eat some of the cap and can also unload LE.

Since we keep seeing OJ's name pop up, is it because other teams value him higher than Rafferty or Rathbone, or does Benning value Rathbone and Rafferty above OJ?

Honestly for me if the deal is going down I'd rather see the Canucks hang on to Boeser, even if it means moving next years 1st so that Ari will take Loui. Still I highly doubt anything like that happens.

Personally I don't like the idea of trading young developing players off of the team in exchange for draft picks.

I think it's this one. They upped his visibility by bringing him into the bubble and giving him a game, and he will always have the top 5 pick pedigree

Any mention of Michael Chaput being in play from the Coyotes side?

It seems like the Canucks have a tremendous amount of leverage in the OEL trade talks.
